The Ministerial Conference on Diabetes is an international conference that acts as a platform for exchange of knowledge and best practices on the global efforts development in controlling and preventing diabetes. The conference that was held for the very first in Singapore was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health as well as several senior officers from the Ministry of Health.

12 Ministers of Health from 18 nations including ASEAN member states, Finland, Papua New Guinea and Tonga as well as representatives from the World Health Organisation and the World Bank attended the conference. The 2-day conference was officiated by Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister of Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies.

At the conference, Yang Berhormat was one of the panellist for a panel discussion titled 'The Diabetes Epidemic - Current Situation, Challenges and Opportunities'. The discussion among other things shared on the overview of the current diabetes situation in Brunei Darussalam as well as the Minister of Health's measures in controlling and preventing diabetes. The Minister of Health stressed that diabetes is a life-long disease, and change towards a healthy lifestyle is the best measure in preventing diabetes. The society has to make a change in mind and attitude from a young age for their future health.

The Minister of Health also attended the Ministerial Roundtable to discuss on theme pertaining to innovation, social mobilisation and collaboration with stakeholders. As a continuation of the conference, the Minister of Health and delegation made a visit to the Diabetes and Metabolism Centre at the Singapore General Hospital.
