The ASEAN Qualification Reference Framework, AQRF, is a unique ASEAN's cross-sectoral and cross-pillar initiative. It was developed to empower the people of ASEAN and to strengthen ASEAN Community building. It also acts as a platform to discuss, recognise and compare the different qualifications and education systems across ASEAN member states, thus encouraging mobility of workers and learners in the region, as well as facilitating life-long learning. The Permanent Secretary (of Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education said that more importantly, the AQRF process promotes continuous improvements for each member states' qualification framework or systems, qualification types and quality assurance systems. Doctor Haji Azman bin Ahmad was speaking at the opening of the 5th ASEAN AQRF Committee Meeting and the National Qualifications Framework, NQF, Phase IV Meeting.

Some 57 people representing the education, labour and trade sectors attend the two-day gathering. The meeting take stock of the AQRF activities and review the implementation plans, including mid-term and long-term activities. It is organise by the Brunei National Qualifications Validation Council, Ministry of Education; ASEAN Secretariat as part of the multiphase project on Referencing National Qualifications Framework to the AQRF; and supported by the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area Economic Cooperation Support Program.
