Children groups aged between 0 to 14 years old make up around 22 percent of the total population in the country. According to the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, seeing that this is a significant number, it is our responsibility as a community to work towards instilling an optimal ecosystem in ensuring that children are being nurtured and protected in the best possible way, especially within the family institution.
Yang Berhormat (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, said this is vital as children are the succeeding generation who will continue develop the country and realise the Wawasan 2035. Yang Berhormat highlighted these matters in a message in conjunction with the World Children's Day 2018. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports added, the country's responsibilities towards children are huge, in ensuring the family institution is continuously maintained and strengthened to enable them to become high calibre individuals for the country's future.
In the message, Yang Berhormat also stressed that the nation want children to live in a secure and happy environment, as well as a stimulating an optimum environment for the physical, mental and spiritual development. In a continuous effort, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is concerned with the welfare of children throughout the country, by providing an easy access to welfare, education and recreation facilities for all children.
According to Yang Berhormat, his ministry will continue to enhance the cooperation in together celebrating the World Children's Day by organising celebrations at school levels to further promote the children's rights to students. Yang Berhormat also called the community to harness the "Whole of Nation Approach" to constantly determine a safe environment for the children to guarantee their well-being.
The World Children's Day, which is celebrated on every 20th November, is held to celebrate children and highlight their rights as found under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
