The finals of the National Level 8th Masrahiah Arabiah or Story-Telling Competition in Arabic and the 4th Arabic Language Debate Competition were held yesterday morning. The competitions were part of efforts by the Islamic Studies Department through coordination with the Co-curriculum Section to educate, nurture and instil students' interest in speaking Arabic as well as familiarising and making a culture of students speaking Arabic as the communication medium and empowering its use at the school level.
The Masrahiah Arabiah Competition was first introduced in 2008. The competitors comprise of students from Ma'had Islam Brunei, Tutong; Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Secondary Arabic Religious School; Bandar Seri Begawan Arabic Preparatory School; Belait Arabic School and Temburong Arabic School.
The final of the Arabic Language Debate Competition was won by Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Secondary Arabic Religious School after defeating Mahad Islam Brunei. The debate topic selected was "Kebergantungan Ekonomi Brunei Kepada Sektor Pertanian Adalah Lebih Baik" or Brunei's economic Dependence on the Agriculture Sector is better. Present were Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Awang Haji Mohd. Serudin bin Haji Timbang, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Policy and Religion at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
