His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning attended the Informal ASEAN-India Breakfast Summit.

Before the Summit began, His Majesty joined other leaders of ASEAN and the Prime Minister of India for a group photo.

The Summit began with the Opening Remarks by His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore as the Chairman of ASEAN, who welcomed the Prime Minister of India.

His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India then delivered his statement.

This was followed by the ASEAN common statement delivered by His Excellency Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-India relations.

At this Summit, His Majesty in his titah firstly welcomes Prime Minister Modi to the Meeting, and expresses appreciation for his continued commitment to ASEAN and its regional processes. His Majesty believe that ASEAN-India can take advantage of the opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution to advance Strategic Partnership.

One way, His Majesty adds, is to explore cooperation among the youth, especially in the area of Info-Communications Technology. By equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, not only will it help narrow the digital divide within the region, but also better prepares the youth to participate in the global digital economy and create opportunities for them to work in the advancements of technology, and help to foster innovation.

In this regard, His Majesty says ASEAN welcomes greater cooperation with India in promoting innovation, research and development across educational institutions. His Majesty also believe that facilitating close collaboration between the people will help foster greater friendship and understanding. This, in turn, will provide a solid foundation for Strategic Partnership going into the future.
