A 14-member delegation from Brunei Darussalam is participating in the ASEAN Regional Disaster Simulation and Emergency Response Exercise 2018, ARDEX-18, in Chilegon, Indonesia. The delegation left the country yesterday. Bidding them farewell at the Brunei International Airport were Awang Mohammad Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary for Safety, Welfare and Law at the Ministry of Home Affairs and (Retired) Colonel Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Director of the National Disaster Management Centre who is also Acting Director of Fire and Rescue.
The 5-day ARDEX-18 exercise is intended to test the reception and coordination mechanism for foreign aid. Especially for this year's exercise, Brunei Darussalam is involved in providing expert assistance from the ASEAN Emergency Assessment Response Team as well as hazardous materials, search and rescue and medical response teams. Brunei Darussalam is a member of ASEAN Disaster Management Committee and the regional exercise is a part of the country's commitment in support of the regional aspiration to achieve its vision towards 'One ASEAN, One Response', which is a joint action by various sectors in giving aid to countries affected by large scale natural disaster.
