The ASEAN Day on Disaster Management (ADDM) is commemorated by ASEAN member states on the 13th of October each year, carrying different themes. This year, ADDM carried the theme ‘Strengthening Public Private Partnership’ which stresses on the importance for cooperation or partnerships between the government and stakeholders including the private sector in managing and reducing the risk of disasters. The National Disaster Management Centre, NDMC yesterday organised a Mini Carnival to commemorate ADDM 2018 at the Student Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD.

The mini carnival was officiated by Retired Colonel Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, the Director of NDMC and Acting Director of Fire and Rescue. Also present was Dayang Hajah Rubiah binti Haji Yacub, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Corporate and Administration of UBD. The carnival aimed to create and improve the public’s awareness on the importance of taking initiatives on disaster risk management in everyday lives. The program’s itinerary include a Public Private Partnership exhibition, PPP, which is joined by stakeholder agencies from both the government and private sectors. Furthermore, various activities have been arranged to further enliven the mini carnival such as the dissemination the NDMC Safety Guide Application and a Public Awareness Survey. The Mini Carnival is also a platform for agencies to promote initiatives towards corporate social responsibility from a disaster management view.
