According to statistics by the Traffic Investigation and Control Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, 15 accident cases involving casualties were recorded from January to September this year. From this number, 19 cases involved youth between 18 to 38 years old. Speaking during a dissemination programme on road safety, Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, member of the Legislative Council stressed the importance of using seatbelt and driving with prudent, discipline and consideration. The programme conducted by the The National Road Safety Council (MKKJR) targeted students of Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

Yang Berhormat as ambassador of MKKJR highlighted that road users should remain cautious and be more careful as well as always aware while on the road as road safety is everyone's responsibility. He further added that road user who does not use seat belt, can cause injury in the vehicle and can be thrown out of the vehicle during accident.

The dissemination campaign was supported by the MKKJR strategic partnership namely, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company, Syarikat Megamas, Automagination Services and Maju Motors Sendirian Berhad. The Youth Outreach program exhibited aspects capable of giving a closer picture on matters that influence safe driving. Among them was the "Seatbelt Convincer" which provides an immediate experience on the risk of using and not using a seatbelt when driving and as a passenger. The programme which targeted youth who possess driving licenses, aimed to enhance awareness and encourage changes in attitude on road traffic regulations.
