The demand for salted eggs in the country is high. The good demand has helped a poultry farmer from Syarikat Hazeeyah Agro Farm in Temburong District to breed broiler ducks and achieve more than self-sufficiency, progressing to a higher level in the business not only in the Temburong market but in the Brunei-Muara District as well.
37 year-old Dayang Nur Haziah binti Abdul Rahman who started breeding ducks in September 2015 is among 4 farmers who produce salted eggs in Temburong District. Starting with 12 ducks, her business now has around 500 ducks. Realizing the big potential of the salted eggs market, Dayang Nur Haziah continues to expand her duck breeding farm near her house at Kampung Sumbiling in Jalan Batang Duri.
The demand for salted eggs is high in Temburong and Syarikat Hazeeyah Agro Farm supplies the eggs to the tamu or open market in Bangar Town, restaurants in Bandar Seri Begawan as well as sell them to customers who come to her home. Considering the encouraging demand, she plans to turn the business into a large-scale commercial enterprise.
She says the standard of her family's life started to change and improve following assistance from the government, and in particular the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah through the Yayasan Entrepreneurship Development Unit which provided assistance in the form of advice and financing. The help was a great support and motivation in expanding her business.
The duck breeding business owned by Dayang Haziah requires great patience and fortitude. Resilience is needed in facing challenges and trials. She is determined to continue working hard and to toil to succeed and further develop the enterprise which is her contribution to the development of the country's food industry.
