The Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program, SSEAYP is an international youth exchange programme specifically for ASEAN countries and Japan introduced since 1974. This year, Brunei Darussalam once again joined in the programme with the objective to produce a global understanding and cooperation, aside from learning about a particular country's culture, politics and economic development. This will be Brunei Darussalam 33rd participation since it first joined in 1985. The SSEAYP contingent left the country yesterday afternoon.

Present at the airport to bid farewell to the participants was Awang Haji Amer Hamzah bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The country's contingent was participated by 28 youths led by Awang Haji Muhammad Iqbal Fakhri bin Haji Damit. The 52-day SSEAYP programme begin tomorrow until the 13th of December. Throughout the programme they will make a stop at several selected countries namely Brunei, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan.
