Issues such as security, drug abuse and unhealthy activities should be prevented early before they become widespread and turn into social illnesses. Taking the preventive measure is expected of all members of society particularly parents or guardians, so that they are always positive, responsible and do not simply depend on the authorities to address the problems.
Dayang Hajah Noorashidah binti Haji Aliomar, the Acting Deputy of Information stressed the matter during a briefing on the 'Awasi Anak Kitani' or 'Monitor Our Children' programme which took place at the Mukim Bokok Community Hall in Temburong District. The briefing also involved a representative of the Internal Security Department who explained the department's duties and responsibilities, including internal security issues. A representative of IT Protective Security Services gave a briefing on cyber threat and crimes as well as guidance for parents on monitoring the use of IT among their children.
Meanwhile, a Narcotics Bureau Control officer explained the worsening cases of drug abuse in the community and the need to handle the problem seriously.
The programme was organised by the Information Department through its Temburong District Branch in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau, Internal Security Department and IT Protective Security Services.
