The involvement of senior citizens in activities which focus on contributing deeds to the country portrays the dedication and commitment of the Tutong senior Citizens Activity Centre members in participating in and supporting charitable programmes in the district. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong made the speech at the Tutong senior Citizens Activity Centre Sumbangsih Night and launching of the Anthology of Poems in conjunction with the National Family Day celebration, night of 17th October. The function took place at the Tutong Civic Centre Complex.
The Minister of Home Affairs said that he believes the active involvement of the members can act as a motivator and boost to the public including youths. Touching on the launch of the anthology of poems, Yang Berhormat Pehin also said that it clearly portrays the creativity of the centre's members who are still able to produce beautiful poetry. The anthology is not only a source of pride for the centre but is a contribution to the country's literary heritage. Yang Berhormat Pehin in his speech also believes that the management structure and activities conducted by the centre can become a model for the establishment of Senior Citizens Activity Centres in other locations. It is hoped that government agencies and the private sector can provide the necessary support towards the establishment of such centres in suitable areas.
The "Gema Kalbu" Anthology of Poems is the works of Awang Haji Bidin bin Haji Mohamad Noor. Known as DINO M-N, he is one of the centre's members who is active in writing. The anthology of poems was presented to the Minister of Home Affairs as well as Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, members of the legislative council and Awang Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, Tutong District Officer.
The function ran concurrently with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to 23 members of the centre for their involvement in programmes and activities carried out in their respective categories.
