His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Chairman of the Yayasan Committee of Governors, yesterday morning made a working visit to the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Housing Scheme in Kampung Bolkiah 'A' and 'B'.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yusof, the Second Minister of Defence as Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and the Second Minister of Finance and Economy as the Deputy Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors, as well as members of the Yayasan Committee of Governors. The working visit began at the site that was suggested for the construction of a permanent building for a religious school in Kampong Bolkiah 'A'. His Royal Highness was briefed on the building's construction by Dayang Rozanna Musfirah binti Haji Saji, the project's architect.
The Kampong Bolkiah 'A' Police Post was next in His Royal Highness' itinerary. Apart from maintaining peace and combating crimes in the said village, the Police Post is also responsible in providing assistance and cooperation to the village residents in any situation that involves the village's well-being.
The Weaving Workshop also came under the attention of His Royal Highness. The workshop is used by the village residents to produce woven cloth as a source of income. Through this workshop, they can also share their knowledge and expertise on weaving cloths with the future generation. Since 1997, 46 Yayasan Trainees have completed the cloth weaving class at the workshop.
Spanning an area of 3 point 7-5 square kilometres, the village also has its own administration office to manage the resident's welfare.
His Royal Highness' visit to Kampung Bolkiah 'A' was very meaningful for 2 families in the village. Happiness can clearly be seen on their faces when His Royal Highness visited their houses, which portrayed the care and attentiveness of the Royal Visitor towards the village resident's well-being, apart from creating a close and unique relationship.
Boarding a special vessel, His Royal Highness surveyed the houses that were damaged by soil erosion at Jetty 1. His Royal Highness is attentive towards the continuous efforts of the Yayasan in managing issues pertaining to the resident's well-being in Kampong Bolkiah 'A'. Kampung Bolkiah 'A' has a population of more than one thousand 500 people, and is under the administration of Awang Shahminan bin Haji Matzin, the Village Chief of Kampung Bolkiah 'A' since the 16th of February 2009. Kampong Bolkiah 'A', formerly known as Kampong Buang Sakar, is one of the Yayasan Housing Schemes that was established on the 5th of October 1992. People began to reside in the village on the 15th of July 1994, and the village was officiated on the 22nd of August in the same year by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
His Royal Highness continued the working visit to several locations in Kampong Bolkiah 'B'. The Yayasan Branch Office, which has a mini library for school students to make reference, came under the attention of His Royal Highness. The establishment of this branch is hoped to facilitate the village resident's business with the Yayasan.
From the Yayasan Branch Office, His Royal Highness then proceeded to the Kampong Bolkiah 'B' Health Clinic. Operating since 2003, the clinic provides child development services for children of 5 years old and below, apart from promoting health education and activities.
The village is also equipped with various facilities provided by the Yayasan. Among them is the temporary religious school which accommodates pupils living in Kampung Bolkiah 'A' and Kampung Bolkiah 'B' housing areas.
The presence of His Royal Highness at Kampung Bolkiah 'B' will surely become an unforgettable memory for some families when His Royal Highness visited their homes. The Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Housing Scheme is a symbol His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's care and attention towards the welfare of the people, regardless of their background.
His Royal Highness then took a closer look at the facilities provided at the Temporary Religious School in Kampung Bolkiah 'B'. The school has over 200 pupils from Kampung Bolkiah 'A' and 'B'. Before the establishment of this school, pupils from the two villages studied at the Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Haji Awang Umar Religious School in Kampung Setia, the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Religious School in Kampung Saba, the Al-Muhtadee Billah Religious School in Kampung Lurong Dalam, and the Pintu Malim Religious School.
His Royal Highness proceeded to the residence of Awang Shamsuddin bin Haji Maidin, the Village Chief of Kampung Bolkiah 'B'. Penghulus and village chiefs are the tongue, eyes and ears for the government of His Majesty in carrying out their duties and responsibilities which are the vital backbone in the Mukim and village management. In this village, 250 houses were built to meet the needs of village residents who fell victim to a fire in 1993.
His Royal Highness ended the working visit at the Kampung Bolkiah 'B' Religious Hall. Operational since the 2nd of May 1995, the religious hall utilises 2 houses, one as a place for worship, and the other one is used as a multi-purpose hall for religious and beneficial activities.
His Royal Highness ended the visit with a luncheon at the Horizon Restaurant. The working visit to Kampong Bolkiah 'A' and Kampong Bolkiah 'B' of the Yayasan Housing Scheme reflected His Royal Highness' care towards the village resident's welfare and well-being.
