In an effort to ensure the safety of boat operators and passengers during their travels from the capital to Temburong District and vice versa, the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning conducted a Water Taxi Inspection Operation at the Jetty Terminal in Jalan Residency, Bandar Seri Begawan. The operation aimed to raise awareness on the importance of using life vests among boat operators and passengers to avoid any unwanted incidents.
The operation was conducted to further tighten the existing standards and regulations. This includes ensuring that boat passenger manifest is correct and in proper order. According to Awang Haji Mohd Salihin bin Haji Aspar, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam, the authority will monitor and conduct inspections to ensure that the provided details are correct and matches the personal information of the passengers. Apart from that, the Marine Police will also organise patrols and inspections to ensure everyone's safety.
All water taxi operators and passengers are also advised to remind one another on the importance of using life vests, and always abide by the stipulated safety regulations for the safety of all.
