Datin Doctor Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz, the Vice- Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, has been awarded a Foreign Minister's Commendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for her contributions to the promotion of friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan. His Excellency Motohiko Kato, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, presented the Award yesterday afternoon at the Ambassador's residence at Kampung Sungai Tilong.
His Excellency Motohiko Kato expressed his gratitude for Datin Doctor Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina for her great contributions to the improvement of academic cooperation between the two countries. The UBD has developed academic cooperation with Japanese universities and promoted academic exchanges between Brunei and Japan. In particular, Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, UBD and the Faculty of Medicine Kagawa University of Japan have collaborated for a long time. The exchange programme between the UBD and Kagawa University is one of the longest-running youth exchange programmes between the two countries organised by both academic institutions.
The Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for activities of the recipients.
