Drivers and passengers, including backseat passengers are urged to wear seatbelts while driving or travelling in a car even if it is only a short distance. The National Road Safety Council, MKKJR also stressed drivers should ensure the tyres of their vehicles were in good condition. The call was made by Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, Member of the Legislative Council as the MKKJR Ambassador during an interview at the Exhibition on Vehicle Seatbelt and Tyre at Petani Mall in Tutong yesterday afternoon.

Awang Haji Osman bin Jair, the Chairman of the Brunei Insurance and Takaful Association (BITA) who is also a MKKJR Ambassador reminded drivers and other road-users to ensure the tyres are in good condition, their expiry period valid and to seek advice from approved tyre distributors for safe driving.

Through the continuous campaigns, the National Road Safety Council hopes to increase public awareness on the importance of obeying the road traffic laws and regulations, increase caution and give priority to safety. This is because obeying the law not only saves lives but also reduces the number of road fatalities in the country. Also in attendance was Doctor Haji Supry bin Haji Awang Ladi, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications as the Secretary of MKKJR Secretary.
