Brunei Darussalam is tackling the issue of trafficking in persons, TIP very seriously and continues its commitment and efforts in combating the issue by raising public awareness and training frontline law enforcers to better detect such cases. Assistant Commissioner of Police Dato Paduka Haji Awang Mohammad Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Awang Ahmad, Acting Director of Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force shared the matter at the closing ceremony of the Combating Trafficking in Persons Conference, yesterday afternoon.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police said that such efforts are reflected in the 2018 US TIP Report where Brunei Darussalam maintains its Tier 2 ranking. He added that Brunei Darussalam continually looks for ways to improve its tier ranking through successful investigation and prosecution.
The two day conference was attended by representatives from Royal Thai Embassy, the Australian High Commission, the High Commission of Malaysia, Royal Embassy of Cambodia and High Commission of the Republic of Singapore. This year's conference focussed on strengthening the network's ability to combat trafficking in persons, including protecting youths from exploitation, preventing the country from becoming a destination for trafficking in persons, misuse of internet and other forms of human exploitation.
