"ASEAN Declaration on Culture of Prevention for a Peaceful, Inclusive, Resilient, Healthy and Harmonious Society" was chosen as a subject matter for deliberation during the 5th ASEAN Children's Forum. Through the forum, ASEAN hopes to implement the declaration by addressing four focus areas, namely peace; respect for all; care for the environment; and healthy lifestyle.
Miss Marianne Clark - Hattingh, UNICEF Representative and Special Representative to Brunei Darussalam in her keynote speech among other said many different topics will be focused in the forum which are relevant to Sustainable Development Goals. She also touched on peace, justice and strong institution. Without peace, stability, human rights and effective governance, ASEAN cannot even hope for sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Mr. Siwon Choi, UNICEF Special Representative from UNICEF National Committee for South Korea in his speech said ASEAN need to demand a right level of services in health, education and security and need to make sure that policy makers and politicians realised children are the future of the country. Unfortunately, they are aware that there are hundreds and thousands of children who have limited access to health, education and security services.
An art exhibition was also held at the lobby of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. 20 arts drawn by students were displayed at the exhibition including three students from Pusat Bahagia. The forum mark another milestone for ASEAN in general and for Brunei Darussalam in particular, in further boosting ASEAN's community- building process towards the realization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.
