Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2018 in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 72nd Birthday Anniversary will be held this Sunday, 12th of August at the Royal Wharf in the capital. The matter was explained during a media conference held yesterday afternoon.

Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, Permanent Secretary of Municipal and District at the Ministry of Home Affairs explained that 12 events will be competed. Six events will be held in the morning and the remaining will be held in the afternoon. Among the events competed are 15-paddler fibre glass boats, 25-paddler inter-ministry traditional boat racing, 15-paddler higher institutions fibre glass boats, 15 and 20-paddler for under 30 youths fibre glass boats and 15-paddler Colleges and Secondary Schools fibre glass boats race. Awang Salminan further explained that among the changes for this year's regatta is the race circuit. The one thousand metre race will begin from Brunei Arts and Handicraft Centre building and ended in front of the Royal Wharf. While the two thousand metre will flag off nearby the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha bridge and ended at in front of the Royal Wharf. Whereas the 5 thousand metre will start from Pulau Sibungur and ended at the Royal Wharf.

Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Municipal and District at the Ministry of Home Affairs explained that the Bandarku Ceria activities on the said date are limited. The cycling activities in the capital to the roundabout at the Prime Minister's Office will be temporarily stopped. This is to allow the public to travel to the capital. The sale booths will only be permitted along Jalan Pemancha and Jalan Pretty. Meanwhile, Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism invited members of the public to watch the Regatta and further enliven the event.

(Retired) Colonel Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Acting Director of Fire and Rescue Department stressed on safety issues and reminds the public to take precautionary measures particularly to boat users. Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Awang Hamri Aslan bin Haji Abu Hanafiah, the Acting Head of Operations and Traffic Division said that the police will supervised several roads during the event. Road users are advised to plan their journey and if necessary, to take alternative route to enter the capital. Road users at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Bridge are reminded not to stop their vehicles along the route.

An exhibition will also be held on the side-lines of the Regatta. Awang Haji Bahrin bin Haji Bolhasan, Acting Curator of Ethnography at the Museums Department explained that the objective of exhibition is to attract the public, especially young generation to understand the tradition of boat racing in the country. The exhibition is also hope to added cheers to the joyous atmosphere of the regatta.
