The Brunei Darussalam well preserved nature, low crime rates, peacefulness, tranquillity and clean environment makes the country as a popular tourist's destination. The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism also said the ministry vision to significantly increase the number of tourists visiting Brunei Darussalam from 218 thousand tourists in 2015 to 450 thousand tourists by 2020 and the mission is to strengthen the tourism products and improve the quality of the tourism services. This was underlined by Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali at the opening ceremony of the workshop on "Chinese Language Training for Chinese Tour Guide Teachers."

Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali said that tourist arrival from China through Brunei International Airport has significantly increased from year to year. He added in 2016, Brunei's received 40,838 tourist arrival from China while in 2017 was 52,391.

The 3 days' workshop were attended by a total of 40 participants consisting of Chinese Instructors from different educational institutions, travel agencies and licensed tour guides. The training is an ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) project for ASEAN countries in which Brunei Darussalam is the first ASEAN country to be elected to implement this project. The Chinese Language Training for Chinese Tour Guide Teachers was one of the main flagship projects in tourism endorsed by the 7th Meeting of the Joint Council of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).
