4 Malaysian nationals and a permanent resident are being detained on suspicion on involvement in gambling activities, following a raid on a house in Kampung Junjongan.
During the raid, the Gambling Suppression and Crime Prevention Unit and the House Breaking Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force foiled the gambling activity and seized 9 gaming machines and 6 laptop computers containing the SCR888 gaming application. All the suspects and evidence were brought to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 4, an offence of running a gambling place which carries a penalty of 12 months imprisonment and twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) fine. Meanwhile, under Section 6 (1) of the Open House Gambling Act, Chapter 28, the gambling offence is liable to a fine of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) fine and six months imprisonment. The Royal Brunei Police Force through the Criminal Investigation Department and the Police Districts will constantly monitor, pursue and trace criminals who try to gain a foothold and conduct illegal activities in the country.
