To achieve the 85 percent house ownership rate under the National Housing Scheme by 2035, requires substantially huge expenditure and subsidies. Hence the Ministry of Development has identified several approaches and policy reviews to be implemented in support of the Private-Public-Partnership (PPP), to ensure affordability, give aid priority to own houses especially to the needy to achieve inclusive development and more cost-effective management.

The Minister of Development outlined these during the launch of the Policy Framework 2018-2023 Book and Strategic Plan Book 2018-2023 of the Ministry of Development this morning. Apart from touching on providing and managing sustainable housing, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, also highlighted several core areas of the ministry's priorities for the next 5 years.

The Minister of Development also touched on the desired result or achievement through the strategic plan. This include the generation and improvement of financial management from services including collection of income and arrears, consideration for corporation feasibility or privatisation of parts of the ministry's and departments' services.

Earlier, Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, the Permanent Secretary for Technical and Professional at the Ministry of Development in a speech expressed the hope that the Policy Framework and Strategic Plan Books would empower the Ministry's services to create excellence, benefit from new opportunities as well as expanding the existing services. Both books are part of the Ministry of Development's initiative in improving it governance to ensure it is in line with the objective of Wawasan Brunei 2035.

During the function, a keynote address one strategic planning was shared by Dr Diana Cheong, Head Researcher of the Centre for Strategy and Policy Studies, CSPS. Also present were Dr. Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abd Razak, the Acting Permanent Secretary for Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Development and Awang Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria, the Director General of Public Works.
