His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, last night watched the Final of the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy for ASEAN Youths Football Tournament, HBT 2018 and presented the HBT winning trophy.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the President of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam as the Advisor of the Executive Committee of the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy for ASEAN Youths Football Tournament 2018. Also greeting His Majesty were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua Adat Istiadat Negara; and Yang Berhormat (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports a well as the Executive Committee members.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brothers;
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;
His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; and
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
The final match saw Cambodia in blue, playing against Timor Leste. In the first half of the match, both teams strived to score a goal but failed. In the 35th-minute, Cambodia was left with 10 players after its no.3 player, Chheng Meng was given a red card. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
In the 51st minute, Timor Leste took the lead the match with a goal through Henrique Wilson Da Cruz. With only 10 players on the field, the Cambodians managed to trouble their opponents but still failed to score. The match ended with Cambodia 0 Timor Leste 1. The result gave Timor Leste the title of HBT 2018 Champion.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince presented prizes to the winners. His Royal Highness first presented a Fair Play team prize to Myanmar.
Henrique Wilson Da Cruz from Timor Leste received the Best Player award.
His Royal Highness also presented medals to Timor Leste, the HBT 2018 Champion. This is the first title for Timor Leste since the team started participating in the HBT tournament in 2012.
The First runner-up title went to Cambodia, who received medals and cash prize of 10 thousand dollars.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy to Timor Leste, this year's Champion. Apart from trophy, the winning team also received medals and a 20 thousand dollars cash prize.
The official closing ceremony of HBT was enlivened with a fireworks display.
The tournament which began on the 23rd of last month was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports with the cooperation of Brunei Darussalam National Football Association, NFABD. The tournament is His Majesty's aspiration to gather the best teams in the ASEAN region to compete and showcase ASEAN sporting capability to the World.
