Cultivating a culture of reading from a young age can produce a knowledgeable, informative, quality and competitive Bruneian society. Yesterday morning, the 5th presentation of the Early Literacy Packs in conjunction with the National Family Day celebration was held at Dewan Al-'Afiah, Ministry of Health.
The presentation was officiated by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. More than 300 children from throughout the country received the Early Literacy Packs containing a number of books in Malay and English.
The Language and Literature Bureau will also invite the recipients to join the monitoring programme at the Language and Literature Bureau branches nationwide in order to see the children's development up to age 5. The programme is hoped to assist parents on the importance of reading and the literacy rate among young children towards achieving Wawasan Negara 2035 in producing citizens who are educated, skilled and high achievers.
