The night of Nisfu Syaaban is celebrated on the 15th of Sya'ban. It marks the middle of the month of Sya'ban and with the many blessings and rewards from Allah on the said night, Muslims are encouraged to perform zikir and religious deeds as much as they could. Late this afternoon, the Ministry of Religious Affairs held the Nisfu Syabaan celebration at the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital.
The function was attended by Awang Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religion) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. To enliven or glorify the night, Muslims are recommended to read Surah Yasin three times after the Maghrib prayer, followed by the special Nisfu Syabaan doa.
A similar celebration was organised by the Islamic Religious Body of the Royal Brunei Police Force. It took place at the Police Headquarters Surau in Gadong. It was attended by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Irwan bin Haji Hambali, the Acting Commissioner of Police. The function began with the mass Maghrib prayer, followed by the Sunat Hajat prayer, reading of Surah Yasin and special Nisfu Sya'ban doa.
