The Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act has existed since the 21st of January 1967. It is an act to provide for the control and preservation of items found at archaeological sites, historical monuments and antiquities in the country. To introduce the act further, a talk was held yesterday morning at the Multipurpose Hall of the Bumiputera Complex in Bangar town, Temburong.
The Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act aims to protect ancient and historical monuments, archaeological sites and remains and antiquities as governed by the law. The Museums Department plays an important role in protecting and preserving Brunei Darussalam's cultural heritage and history. 29 monument and historical sites can be found in the Brunei Muara district, 4 in the Tutong District, while there are 2 monument and historical sites each in the Belait and Temburong districts. Hajah Nur Kamiliah binti Haji Ismail, an Archaeological Officer, expressed hoped that the talk can educate the public about the act in together protecting the country's heritage.
