All owners, operators and drivers of speedboats and water taxis in the country are advised to always adhere to safety regulations including those related to load limits and also life vests. According to the Brunei Darussalam Ports and Maritime Authority, PBMP, this is to ensure that boat safety as well as the safety of passengers. PBMP as well as other enforcement agencies will work together to ensure that the water transport system is safe for daily public use. The department will take action against any water taxi operators who do not adhere to the safety regulations and conditions stipulated.

For the safety and well-being of the public, drivers of speedboats and water taxis are advised to reduce their speed and to always be cautious especially during uncertain weather. They are also reminded on the importance of providing safety equipment such as life vests, fire extinguishers and navigation lights especially during foggy weather and at night. Aside from that, the public using speedboats and water taxis on the Brunei River are reminded to put on life-vests.
