His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamad Alam consented to attend a Reception presented by Heads of Mission of friendly nations in conjunction with His Majesty’s 68th Birthday anniversary.
The reception ceremony took place yesterday morning at Royal Berkshire, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, Jerudong.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty were greeted by the High Commissioners and Ambassadors of friendly nations to the country and spouses, led by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Victor A. Seleznev, as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.
The Dean of Diplomatic Corps, His Excellency Victor A. Seleznev, in his welcoming address, among other things, expressed thanks before His Majesty for his wise leadership, saying that he was impressed by His Majesty’s Government’s efforts towards prosperity through economic progress, religion and culture, apart from maintaining social prosperity and traditional values. As representative of the diplomatic missions, His Excellency expressed very deep appreciation for the hospitality, honour, generosity and friendship that Their Majesties had shown as well as the friendship extended by His Majesty’s Government and citizens towards the diplomatic community.
At this ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty the Raja Isteri consented to receive a Pasambah in the form of a Painting of Kampung Ayer as a sign of respect from the diplomats towards the uniqueness of the Brunei culture.
Since achieving independence, Brunei Darussalam has established diplomatic relations widely with friendly nations throughout the world. His Majesty, in his titah at the Audience and Investiture Ceremony on the 14th of August, stressed that Brunei Darussalam would continue to maintain the policy of friendship and mutual respect with friendly nations, besides strengthening cooperation in various fields and levels for mutual peace and well-being.
Brunei Darussalam’s strong foreign policy constitutes an important element in strengthening relations and cooperation with other countries. Brunei Darussalam always practises the policy of friendly relationship with other countries, and respects their rights without interfering in their internal affairs regardless of their ideologies, beliefs and races. With such a policy, the country is known to the world and has been successful in further strengthening and enhancing the existing relations.
This ceremony reflects the sense of deep respect and appreciation to His Majesty and Her Majesty as well as members of the royal family, the government, citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam for the hospitality, honour and friendship accorded to the diplomats.
