His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in his titah urged people in the country particularly youth and students, not to take lightly the matter of berkat or blessings. This is because berkat blessings are greater that any worldly material gain and from the blessings come all the good things that we enjoy such as security, peace and prosperity.
His Majesty made the titah at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration Ceremony presented by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam consented to attend the ceremony which took place this morning at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty were greeted by the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman as Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Board of Directors, members of the Administrative Committee and members of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Board of Directors.
Shortly after arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty consented to sign the visitor’s book.
Also present were His Majesty’s sons, daughter, brothers and sisters – His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab-Rahaman; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah. Also attending were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam as well as other members of the Royal family.
The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
The Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Board of Directors, in his welcoming address, touched on the theme of the celebration portraying the role of a leader. An effective leader, Yang Berhormat Pehin added, are those who lead their followers towards achieving the objective of their organisations. The theme was in recognition and appreciation of their roles besides improving understanding of His Majesty’s aspiration and the importance of a leader’s responsibility and role in leading an organisation, association, institution, school, mosque or workplace he leads. This is because the success of an organisation or group depends on the leadership of each organisation.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his titah, reminded the citizens and residents to always be thankful for the blessings they enjoy. All the blessings enjoyed by the people in the country, His Majesty added, come from Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.
His Majesty and Her Majesty the Raja Isteri then consented to watch a Video Show entitled, ‘Kepimpinan Melalui Tauladan’, or “Leadership by Example”. This 10 minute Visual depicted the achievements and success of the nation under His Majesty’s wise leadership. It is hoped that His Majesty’s leadership style will continue to be upheld and used as an example by leaders at all levels in the country, from those at the upper level to those at the grass-root level.
The ceremony was highlighted with singing presentations and drama performances by 150 participants comprising combined pupils and students of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary Schools. Among the performances presented was a Drama Sketch entitled, “Generation with Vision” which conveyed the message of encouragement for youth to participate in several training programmes such as the National Service Programme, PKBN, as the programme enables youth to develop positive values and self-discipline, apart from cultivating the caring attitude and volunteerism among members of the community. This drama also highlighted the need for youth to learn self-motivation and achieve a high level of self-confidence as it is the main quality towards becoming a leader.
Selection of participants from among community leaders aimed to familiarise them with the qualities of His Majesty’s wise leadership as an example from an exemplary leader in implementing the trust and responsibility towards the people he leads. It is also to enhance understanding of His Majesty’s stance on the importance of the leaders’ responsibility and role in leading the people towards excellence and development of self-esteem, of the race and nation. This is also as an appreciation for the contributions from the leaders in activating the administrative machinery and management of the organisation.
At this ceremony, His Majesty and Her Majesty as well as members of the Royal family also consented to view an exhibition themed, “Leadership”. Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah with the cooperation of various agencies, provided 23 exhibition booths showcasing the patterns of leadership during the school era and leadership in general according to Islamic Shariat. Among the agencies taking part in the exhibition were the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA, Institut Teknologi Brunei, ITB, Politeknik Brunei, Institute of Leadership and Innovation Development, Youth and Sports Department, and the Mosque Affairs Department.
At this ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty the Raja Isteri also consented to receive Hari Raya Greetings and Junjung Ziarah from those present.
This year, the Yayasan invited 1 thousand 200 participants from several categories of leaders representing the Government and Private Sectors, Religious institutions and Mosques, Educational Institutions and schools, including student leaders, as well as leaders of community and associations up to the grassroots level. This was the 11th Hari Raya celebration held by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah since 2003 highlighting the different clusters of the community each year and this year it involved participants from the cluster identified as of interest in generating mutual well-being.
