Escape Bazar IBTE 2022

The Institute of Brunei Technical Education, IBTE, Schools of Business is organising an Escape Bazar IBTE 2022 starting yesterday. The 2-day bazaar is held at IBTE Business Campus in Gadong

 

The event is organised by the Business Campus Semester 3 students as part of their Event Management module project. Various activities are held including e-sports tournament, wildlife show and sales. The bazaar is open from 10 in the morning until 8:30 in the evening. The project is an initiative to improve the quality of the programme towards providing students with real world knowledge and holistic experience.

Belia Syumul Harapan Negara’ Intensive Workshop

The Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB, organised the Series 1 of the ‘Belia Syumul Harapan Negara’ Intensive Workshop titled Strengthening of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah Belief. The workshop was held at KUPU SB’s Dewan Tarbiah.

 

Three modules were discussed by KUPU SB lecturers and participants from Islamic Da’wah Centre, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, teachers from the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs and youths. The workshop among others aimed to raise awareness on the importance of appreciating the Ahli Sunnah Waljama’ah and practicing its teachings among the youth.

Eksesais Sembilang’ Closing Ceremony

The Eksesais Sembilang 16/22 conducted by the Marine Police, Royal Brunei Police Force and Royal Brunei Navy ended with a Closing Ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Marine Police Headquarters in Muara.

 

Captain Khairil bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Fleet Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy emphasised the importance of cooperation between both parties as one of the Whole of Government Approach in ensuring that maritime security is always maintained. Various solution procedures in dealing with maritime issues were implemented during the exercise. Also held was a joint compliant boarding training involving a rigid inflatable boat from the Naval Surface Action Group and the KDB SYAFAAT Patrol Boat. Interactive sports events were also held to strengthen relationships and improve fitness and health levels. This year, the Marine Police won the Sembilang Cup.

Important Milestone throughout 100th Years

A century of tireless work and steady development has paved the way for Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan to celebrate it’s 100th Anniversary yesterday, which undoubtedly marks another important milestone for the school. Ever since its establishment in 1922, the school has been consistently following developments in the National Education System to ensure that its students receive quality education.

 

This school was previously known as Yok Choi School in 1918, before its name was eventually changed to Chung Hwa Middle School. It was initially established with the aim of undertaking the development of children in the local Chinese community, specifically in the field of education. Today, Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan, has successfully realised its vision of becoming the “Most Sought-After School in Brunei.” Such positive growth has enabled this school to gain recognition and a high level of confidence from parents in particular and from the multi-ethnic society in general.

 

With increased efforts and emphasis towards educational transformation, this school has earned its reputation as a renowned education institution in the country. Although the past one hundred years have seen a host of radical changes in the field of education, the school has emerged as a school of excellence, with recognised achievements that have served to drive the school to reach for even greater heights.

 

Throughout the 100 years of its establishment, Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan has held several anniversary celebrations at a number of different school sites. The first major celebration was the school’s 50th Anniversary in 1972, which was officiated by Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien. The school’s 80th Anniversary Celebration in 2002 and 90th Anniversary Celebration in 2012 were officiated by His Majesty the Sultan AND Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The school’s policy – which prioritises learning in three languages alongside emphasis on five aspects of education, namely academic, moral, physical, art and social education – will constantly be strengthened in order to ensure that the excellence attained all this while will continue to be achieved.

Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum

Brunei Darussalam fully supports efforts to promote digitization opportunities in the economic and trade sectors in today’s era of scientific and technological development. The Speaker of the Legislative Council stated the matter while attending the 30th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, APPF, in Bangkok, Thailand. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib also touched on the early prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases which is the main focus in ensuring a high level of healthcare, in line with the National Health Strategic Plan 2019 to 2023.

 

Themed, ‘Parliaments and the Post-COVID-19 Sustainable Development,’ the meeting discussed on COVID-19 post-pandemic issues, in an effort to rebuild various economic, political, social and general health sectors. The meeting played an important role as a platform for sharing ideas to discuss and exchange views on the best methods in coordinating and dealing with the global crisis for the benefit of all.

 

Held physically in Bangkok, Thailand, the meeting was the first meeting attended by Brunei Darussalam as a full member. Also present was Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar, Secretary to the Cabinet Minister’s Meeting and Clerk to the Legislative Council.

 

The meeting approved eleven resolutions, while three resolutions will be carried forward to the next meeting and two resolutions withdrawn. The meeting also approved on a joint statement signed by Heads of the APPF Member Delegations.

Launching Of Islamic Health Education Exhibition

The Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB is organising the Islamic Health Education Exhibition at Times Square, Berakas. The exhibition, which ends tomorrow, 30th October, aims to provide understanding to the public on health based on Al-Qur’an and As-Sunah as well as matters related to it.

 

The exhibition was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health. 16 exhibition spaces are provided for the public. Various activities have also been lined up including prayer demonstration and health therapy. Also present, Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. Among the agencies joining include Ministry of Health, State Mufti Department, Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre and the Islamic Da’wah Centre.

Exhibition Viewing

Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan is a private school that provides a 3 language-learning environment namely Malay, English and Mandarin. The teaching and learning medium was highlighted at the school’s Academic Exhibition. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam took a closer look at the exhibition.

 

Also joining were His Majesty’s sons and brothers:

– His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen;

– His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

– And His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

 

The Academic Exhibition highlighted the 3 language-learning by the 3 Languages Departments and Kindergarten.

 

Also highlighted was the kindergarten pupil’s digital learning.

 

His Majesty then took a closer look at ‘The Future of Education’ Exhibition which showcased projects by the Science Department, Mathematics Department, and the Malay, MIB and Jawi Department.

 

Attractive interactive learning was highlighted at the Teaching and Learning Resource Room.

The school, which started as a hut school, has been developed over the years and now provides kindergarten, primary and secondary-level education.

 

Chung Hwa Middle School strives to provide a quality education, in line with its vision ‘To be the Most Sought After School in Brunei.’

100th Anniversary Celebration

Over a century, Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan has faced various challenges in providing a holistic and quality education in together realising the Ministry of Education’s goals. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning graced the 100th Anniversary of the Establishment of Chung Hwa Middle School in the capital.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh, Minister of Education, and Awang Ong Tiong Oh, Chairman of Chung Hwa Middle School Board of Directors.

 

Accompanying His Majesty were His Majesty’s sons and brothers:

– His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen;

– His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

– And His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

 

The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat was led by Haji Hairol Haimi bin Haji Usop, Lower Primary Head Religious Teacher, Chung Hwa Middle School.

 

This was followed by the Pledge of Loyalty by the School’s Board of Directors and School Community together with the Chung Hwa Middle School Alumni.

 

Awang Ong Tiong Oh in his welcoming speech underlined the 5 aspects of education at the said school including physical and mental shaping as well as strengthening social values.

 

As the oldest private school in the country, Chung Hwa Middle School always places emphasis on innovative education, inline with the digital and globalisation era.

 

His Majesty then presented the Long Service Award to 15 members of Chung Hwa Middle School’s Board of Directors. The celebration was enlivened with a performance highlighting the school’s establishment.

 

The ‘Brunei Yakin’ spirit was showcased in a performance that combined modern and classic music in addition to the use of advanced technology. Chung Hwa Middle School became the first school in the country to be named as the Microsoft Showcase School since 2014.

Maintain Harmony, Realise Solidarity

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah reminds all schools and educators in the country to never forget to instil Bruneian values among the students. His Majesty stresses that this is the only way to maintain harmony as well as realising solidarity.

 

In the titah at the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the establishment of Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan, yesterday morning, the Monarch expresses hope for private education institutions to together take seriously the issue of Learning Loss among students especially at the primary and secondary levels during COVID-19 and be responsible in ensuring Learning Recovery can be carried out successfully. His Majesty in the titah sees 2022 as a historic year for Chung Hwa Middle School as it means that in entering this year, Chung Hwa Middle School has reached its one hundredth year of establishment. One hundred years, His Majesty says in the titah, is not a short period of time but is long enough to enable it to develop and create excellence.
