Sailing: Swiss team Decouvertes-GeoMod wins the J/70 world championship in Monaco

MONACO, Oct. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The J/70 world championship, organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco, ends with the victory of the Swiss team Decouvertes-GeoMod. The crew, formed by Kilian Wagen, Gregeoire Siegwart, Luke Patience, David Hughes, Celia Wilson, finished on the top step of the podium followed by the Monegasque team Leonteq with Pierrik Devic, Francois Brenac, Stephane Christidis, Axelle Foucaud, Martin Lemarchand. Bronze medal to the Americans Peter Duncan, Willam Van Waay, Morgan Trubovich and Victor Diaz de Leon with their boat Relative Obscurity.  “We are world champions and with my team we are very happy with the result – says Luke Patience -. We came to Monaco to win and we worked very hard. We didn’t expect it. It was great and I sailed with some old friends. There was a moment when I thought that our points were good and that if we could finish the race in a certain position then we could become world champions. It is a strange feeling: you don’t want to say it in your head because otherwise you risk losing focus instead you have to keep your attention up. I didn’t tell what I thought to the other teammates, I kept it to myself. The conditions were difficult because the wind kept changing but in English we say ‘fortune favors the brave’ and that’s what happened today.”  The world championship was the first one to be organised in Monaco since 1976: “It was amazing for the Yacht Club. As the vice president – underlines Pierre Casiraghi – it’s a fantastic event. We’ve been working for years and I want to thank all the team of the Yacht Club that did an amazing job but also the sailors that came here and fought to get the best result. We’re very proud  we have a vice world champion from the club and Monaco so to us it’s a great honor. I want to congratulate the winners, the Swiss team, they did an amazing job, very consistent all day. We’re very happy and hope we can organize more events of this magnitude.”  Some 400 sailors, 90 teams, 23 nations took part to the competition organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with the Monegasque Sailing Federation, FxPro, Sebago and technical sports clothing brand Slam which supplied garments for all crew members on the podium.

Luiss Rector Andrea Prencipe Received the Journal of Business Venturing’s Best Paper Award

Andrea Prencipe

Luiss Rector Andrea Prencipe received the Journal of Business Venturing’s Best Paper Award for the paper “The Language of Investments:How Language-Structure Influences Crowdfunding Investments.”

ROME, Oct. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Luiss Rector Andrea Prencipe received the Journal of Business Venturing’s Best Paper Award for the paper “The Language of Investments: How Language-Structure Influences Crowdfunding Investments.” The study was conducted with Professors Francesca Di Pietro, University Milano Bicocca, Francesca Masciarelli, University G. d’Annunzio Pescara, and Vangelis Souitaris, Cass Business School. It explores how language can predict individuals’ investment choices and their propensity for entrepreneurship. The study relies on the assumption that language predicts people’s investment behaviour and entrepreneurial propensity. Languages are divided into those that rarely distinguish present and future time (such as German, Dutch, Swedish, and Chinese, i.e., weak-future languages, and those that have a marked distinction between present and future time such as French, Italian and English, i.e., strong-future languages. Speakers of weak-future languages appear to perceive future events as closer than do speakers of strong-future languages. Speakers of weak-future languages are likely attracted to the idea of personally investing in entrepreneurial ventures, including crowdfunding investments. By linking language, culture, cognitive frames and economic behaviours, the study adds an important and interdisciplinary explanation for cross-country variation in early-stage crowdfunding investment, and our findings have important practical implications for entrepreneurs, crowdfunding investors, and policymakers.

This important award confirms that in Luiss the education model combines academic rigour but, at the same time, practical relevance. «Our faculty comprises academic professors and practitioners from the real world – meaning executives, diplomats, representatives from public administration», said Luiss University Dean, Andrea Prencipe. Rome’s Luiss University is revered for both its physical beauty and educational excellence, blending its rich history with the digital age of the present to prepare students that shape the future. Throughout its four departments of Economics and Finance, Business and Management, Law and Political Science, the private university offers an innovative educational approach which is gaining increasing international recognition.

«In Luiss students will have the opportunity to grow their mindset. They will have the opportunity to acquire tools that will enable them to face the complexity and the discontinuities of the challenges that they will face once they will enter the job market. Those challenges, as we know, are increasingly complex, often more discontinuous. So a change in the mindset is fundamental and our programs do that», said Prencipe.

Taconic Biosciences Launches First and Only Super Immunodeficient Mouse Models Lacking Residual Murine Fc Gamma Receptors, for Improved Antibody Therapy Assessment

FcResolv™ NOG Models Provide Greater Clarity and More Translatable Data

RENSSELAER, N.Y., Oct. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Taconic Biosciences, a global leader in providing drug discovery animal model solutions, has launched the FcResolv™ NOG portfolio, the first and only super immunodeficient mouse models lacking residual murine Fc gamma receptors (FcγRs) known to confound results in antibody-based therapy studies.

Murine FcγRs can cause false positives or false negatives, leading to incorrect conclusions and derail drug discovery. FcResolv NOG models knock out these receptors for greater clarity in antibody-based drug studies, affording investigators greater confidence and more translatable data with fewer studies and fewer animals. With applicability in oncology, immuno-oncology, and autoimmune disease, FcResolv NOG models are suitable for engrafting a wide range of human cells and tissues, including simultaneous human tumor engraftment and immune system humanization.

“Antibody-based therapies represent one of the fastest-growing classes of drugs, creating a pressing need for better preclinical tools to assess therapeutics such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and bispecific antibodies,” said Dr. Michael Seiler, vice president of commercial products at Taconic. “Taconic’s FcResolv NOG portfolio enables researchers to evaluate drug candidates like these on their own merits, free of interference from residual murine Fc gamma receptor activity.”

FcResolv NOG models eliminate the false negatives that occur when an antibody-based therapeutic’s Fc domain interacts with murine FcγRs as well as the false positives that result when FcγRs trigger residual murine immune activity. They also eliminate costly deconvolution steps otherwise needed to distinguish true drug efficacy from off-target effects mediated through the mouse immune system. With more reliable answers, researchers can target their drug discovery investments more strategically and effectively.

The FcResolv NOG model portfolio is based on the super immunodeficient CIEA NOG mouse®. The portfolio currently includes two models:

  • FcResolv NOG, for tumor xenografts using cell lines or patient-derived tumors, engraftment of other normal or pathological human cells and tissues, and immune system humanization studies
  • FcResolv hIL-15 NOG, which supports engraftment of human NK cells and is suitable for efficacy studies on antibody-based therapeutics with an antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) mechanism of action

To learn more about the FcResolv NOG portfolio, visit www.Taconic.com/fcresolv. Or call 1-888-TACONIC (888-822-6642) in the US, +45 70 23 04 05 in Europe, or email info@taconic.com.

Eurora partners with DPDgroup to automate cross-border trade compliance

TALLINN, Estonia, Oct. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eurora Solutions, the provider of a leading AI/ML (artificial intelligence/machine learning) backed cross-border trade compliance platform, launches a partnership with DPDgroup, one of the world’s leading parcel delivery network.

This partnership will enable DPDgroup, which delivers 2.1 billion parcels yearly, to enhance its quality and compliance processes whilst lowering the costs of customs processing.

DPDgroup will use Eurora’s AI/ML-backed platform to automate the allocation of product classification (HS) codes and compliance with the export control rules applied in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The allocation of product classification (HS) codes and export control classification (ECCN code) is a pivotal step within the export process, as these classifications are needed to prove all restrictions and license requirements have been duly checked by the shipper before exporting an item.

Eurora’s compliance platform processes up to 5,000 requests per second with 98% accuracy* – the highest level of accuracy, speed, and automation available in the market. As there are more than 15,000 10-digit commodity codes in the EU alone, it is impossible to match this speed and cost with manual or hybrid methods, most used today.

As a next step, both companies are looking towards extending the geographical coverage of export compliance services, namely to the Middle East and Asia.

“Eurora and the DPDgroup have been closely working together since the beginning of 2022 to elaborate the rules of different jurisdictions, containing a wide range of classification rules and restrictions that have been ´learned´ by the Eurora machine,” said Marko Lastik, founder and Group CEO of Eurora.

DPDgroup, delivering over 8.4 million parcels worldwide each day, was looking for a solution that would enhance its parcel delivery operations. “In a context where product safety and transport security processes are key, and with growing international activity, we always aim to enhance quality and compliance. Using AI and Machine Learning solutions will help us improve the scalability and reliability of our international operations, while paving the path for future opportunities like new customer services, new geography, and further automation,” said Olivier Tsalpatouros, Senior Director Regulatory & Global Trade Affairs at DPDgroup.

“Years of scientific research and developing machine learning capabilities have allowed Eurora to demonstrate that we are trusted by the logistics and postal industry. Eurora AI engine can find the most appropriate response from a large amount of data by learning from constantly adding data,” Marko Lastik explained.

Eurora’s AI uses over 500 million records of training data from real transactions of the world’s largest logistics service providers. The platform can be used by online sellers, marketplaces, logistics and postal companies to automate tax and duty declarations and assign the appropriate HS code.

HEIDELBERG, Germany, Oct. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BioMed X announced today the launch of their first joint research project with Sanofi. As part of this, a new research group to be established at the BioMed X Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, will focus on the development of a versatile computational platform able to accurately predict the efficacy of first-in-class drug candidates in virtual patient populations.

The research collaboration will address one of the most important bottlenecks of the pharmaceutical industry today: a 90% failure rate of new drug candidates during clinical development. It is the aim to transform the practice of medicine with the use of digital data and artificial intelligence, and thus, this project will benefit from Sanofi’s deep datasets and expertise. As a proof-of-concept, the initial model will focus on chronic immune-mediated diseases such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

“In the past two years, we have gained significant experience in the field of artificial intelligence through our strategic partnership with AION Labs in Israel. Our new collaboration with Sanofi allows us to further extend our data science and AI expertise in Heidelberg, where we have developed an ideal incubation environment for biomedical innovation at the interface between academia and industry,” explains Christian Tidona, Founder and Managing Director of the BioMed X Institute.

“Identifying quality clinical candidates for treatment of patients with unmet need is among the most rewarding parts of the research and development process,” said Frank Nestle, Global Head of Research and Chief Scientific Officer at Sanofi. “This groundbreaking research collaboration will allow us to partner with scientists with unique computational skills and diverse capabilities that will help us to achieve our goals of bringing vital treatments to patients with chronic inflammatory diseases. This collaboration will be instrumental for advancing with our core mission of transforming drug discovery and development through application of AI-based modeling and simulation.”

A diverse team of talented early-career scientists tackling this challenge will be jointly selected by the two companies through the successful and unique recruiting model designed by BioMed X, which entails a global call for application followed by a five-day innovation boot camp. The winning team will be hosted for up to five years by the BioMed X Institute, which is embedded in the life sciences campus of the University of Heidelberg, less than an hour away from Sanofi’s Research & Development site in Frankfurt.

The new team will join the 11 research groups at the BioMed X Institute already working with complex human ex-vivo models and data science in oncology, immunology, and neuroscience.

Interested candidates who want to drive this research team are invited to respond to this international call for applications and submit a project proposal via the BioMed X Career Space at https://bio.mx/career before Jan. 8, 2023.
