Global health veteran Anuradha Gupta is Sabin Vaccine Institute’s new Global Immunization President

WASHINGTON, Oct. 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Veteran public health leader Anuradha Gupta, who has spearheaded a host of successful global initiatives to improve the health of women and children and boost vaccine access and uptake, has joined Sabin Vaccine Institute as President of Global Immunization. Gupta’s record of crafting and implementing creative solutions to seemingly intractable health challenges is particularly significant now with life-saving childhood immunizations sustaining their largest backslide in decades, fueled largely by the pandemic.

Gupta comes to Sabin after eight years with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she served as Deputy CEO and led efforts to center policies, programs and partnerships around vaccine equity, gender and communities. She also pioneered the concept of zero-dose children – those who have not received a single dose of the most basic vaccines – and drove efforts to create a new model of country-level partnerships.

A recent United Nations report noted that in 2021, 25 million babies missed out on one or more doses of routine vaccinations for diseases such as measles, diphtheria, and whooping cough. Nearly 18 million of those children, many in low-income countries, were zero-dose, making them more vulnerable to deadly and debilitating infectious diseases, and also, spurring fears of diseases such as polio and measles reemerging in non-endemic countries.

Gupta’s most recent initiative to focus on children who have not received a single shot is audacious for its ambition and scope. She was the guiding force behind Gavi’s $500 million Equity Accelerator Fund which includes an innovative program aimed at reaching zero-dose children in conflict zones and drought-afflicted areas in the Sahel region and the Horn of Africa.

Gupta pointed out that children who had been deprived of a single shot accounted for half of vaccine-preventable deaths and that targeting this population could be a game changer for reducing disease outbreaks and improving overall health security.

“These children live in communities that often face multiple deprivations so we must find a way to connect them to their first shot otherwise they miss their shot at a healthy future,” she said. “The Zero Dose Immunization concept goes beyond routine vaccines to connect families to other critical health care and humanitarian services, in consultation with communities, governments and other key groups.”

Prior to Gavi, Gupta served as Mission Director of the National Health Mission of India where she played a leading role in India’s efforts to eradicate polio, reduce maternal and child mortality, bring down fertility rates and revitalize primary health care. She served as a member of the Steering Committee for Child Survival Call to Action, co-chaired the Stakeholder Group for the 2012 London Summit on Family Planning and was a member of the Family Planning 2020 Reference Group.

Gupta holds an MBA from the University of Wollongong in Australia and received executive education from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Stanford Graduate School of Business and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. In 2015, she was named one of “300 Women Leaders in Global Health” by the Global Health Centre of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. She was profiled among the ten most influential women IAS officers in a recently released book – the Indian Administrative Services or IAS as it’s commonly called is India’s preeminent civil service.

In 2021, Gupta received the University of Wollongong’s Alumni Award for Social Impact. She was also conferred the highest civilian award for public service by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Cross of Labour by the President of Laos for contributions to the health of the people in that country. WillScot Mobile Mini Holdings Completes Divestiture of Tank and Pump Business

PHOENIX, Oct. 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — WillScot Mobile Mini Holdings Corp. (“WillScot Mobile Mini” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: WSC), a North American leader in modular space and portable storage solutions, today announced it has completed the previously announced divestiture of its Tank and Pump segment to private equity firm Kinderhook Industries effective September 30, 2022. Dikir Maulud continue to echo at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam. On 2nd October night, a delegation from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications held such a ceremony at Masjid Universiti, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

 

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. The event continued with the reading of Dikir Assalamualaika and Dikir Bisyahrin.

​Weather conditions, climate and long-term forecast for the Inter-Monsoon period became the focus of the 17th National Weather Briefing yesterday morning.

 

A briefing on the Inter-Monsoon was delivered by Dayang Harnina binti Morani, meteorologist from the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department. Meanwhile, a briefing on disaster management in the country was delivered by Awangku Muhd Naaim Syafii bin Pengiran Haji Besman, disaster management officer from the National Disaster Management Centre. The briefings aimed to facilitate user groups and the public in making plans as well as early actions to face any weather condition.

Southeast Asia Red Cross and Red Crescent Youth Forum

​The Southeast Asia Red Cross and Red Crescent Youth Forum serves as a platform to enable youths to discuss and debate issues pertaining to the evolution of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The forum was officiated yesterday morning in Kampung Beribi. The 3-day forum is hosted by the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies, IFRC.

 

Officiating the forum was Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussof bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, President of Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society. In line with the IFRC strategy 2030, the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement has prioritised youth as an important mechanism and tomorrow’s leaders in contributing to building strong national IFRC societies. The forum is joined by 24 youth staff and youth leaders in Southeast Asia, in which they will discuss and provide their input on current movement strategies, the IFRC and ASEAN Memorandum of Understanding and International Humanitarian Law.

Weather Update for Brunei Darussalam

Brunei Darussalam is now entering Inter-Monsoon period this early October, where local wind effects will play an important role in affecting the country’s daily weather. During Inter-Monsoon season, the country normally experiences fair weather in the morning and isolated coastal showers occur around midday. Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms occur over the inland during the afternoon, spreading and affecting coastal and sea areas at night, and may persist to early morning of the following day.

 

Active weather condition is forecast starting yesterday afternoon until Sunday, 9th October 2022. This is due to moist atmosphere over the region, enhancing active development of rain clouds over the country. Occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected, with wind gust up to 50 kilometres per hour during or near heavy showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea is generally at slight state below 1 meter. Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather conditions.

26th Mastera Conference

The strategic plan of the Southeast Asian Literature Council, Mastera and the management of the Mastera programme as well as the development of the literature of each Mastera member country were among the discussion agenda of the 26th Mastera Conference and Mastera range of activities, namely the International Seminar on Southeast Asian Literature, SAKAT and the Forum of Literary Writers/Tamu Asuhan Mastera which began yesterday, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Brunei Darussalam sent 3 MASTERA representatives to the conference.

 

The Language and Literature Bureau, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as the Secretariat of Mastera Brunei Darussalam is represented by Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau, as Chairman of Mastera Brunei Darussalam.
