No Halal Certification

Following complaints from the public, the Department of Syar’iah Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Halal Food Control Division has inspected Dorito’s Nacho Cheese, Mild Salsa, Hot Salsa and Medium Tomato Salsa products which were found to contain ‘Spirit Vinegar’ and ‘White Wine’ Vinegar ‘, which are types of vinegar made from alcoholic drinks.

The matter was also referred to the product manufacturer, Walkers Snack Food Limited, United Kingdom, which confirmed that no halal certification was issued on the product. In order to safeguard the welfare of the Muslim community in the country, the Department of Syar’iah Affairs, has instructed the owners of the premises to isolate all such products immediately to the ‘Non Halal Section’ or space that is not exposed to public sale. All importers, supermarkets and shops are also advised to take the action immediately if there are similar products distributed and sold at their respective premises.

Uniqueness of Culture Becomes Attraction

The uniqueness of culture and traditions found in the Temburong District often attracts the attention of people to continue to visit the area. The culture and traditions of the Murut Ethnic or also known as Lun Bawang are one of the attractions.

Recently, a number of international undergraduates from Universiti Brunei Darussalam took a closer look and learn the uniqueness of Murut Ethnic culture and traditions in the Temburong District.

Slaughtering Workshop According To Islam

The Mosque Affairs Department through the Belait District Mosque Affairs Office with the cooperation of members of Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Takmir Committee, Kuala Belait, took the initiative to hold a Slaughtering Workshop According to Islam for Mosque Officers, members of mosque takmir committee and mosque congregants in the Belait District.

60 participants joined the workshop which was held at Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Kuala Belait. The workshop aimed to provide understanding on the law and method of slaughtering according to Islam. Aside from that to provide opportunity to the workshop participants to know further on slaughtering procedures.

Manasik Umrah Revision Tazkirah

Intending haj pilgrims from the Al Hijrah Travel and Tours Package and Straight Central Agency yesterday attended the Manasik Umrah revision tazkirah or talk. The tazkirah was held in two separate places in Madinah Al-Munawarah.

For intending pilgrims from the Straight Central Agency, the tazkirah was held at Shahd Al-Medinah. It was delivered by Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Haji Basar, Religious Teacher of Haj Administration Office. Meanwhile, the tazkirah for Al Hijrah Travel and Tours intending pilgrims was held at the Front Taibah Hotel. The tazkirah, among others, provides an opportunity for intending pilgrims to revise the pillars of umrah.

Performing Umrah

Upon arrival in Makkah, after having dinner and rest, the intending pilgrims continue to perform umrah.

The intending pilgrims were led by mutawiffs selected by Syarikat Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad. The pillars of umrah are niat, circumambulation around the Kaaba, Saie, shaving or cutting and tertib, while the obligatory umrah, niat of ihram in miqat and avoid forbidden things during ihram. The pilgrims are now waiting for the culmination of the pilgrimage, which is wukuf at Arafah in a few weeks’ time.

Pilgrims Will Leave Madinah for Makkah

Some of Brunei Darussalam intending pilgrims are currently in the Holy land of Makkah Al-Mukaramah to join hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from other countries. All pilgrims are those from the Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad Package.

5 buses were used to take the country’s intending pilgrims leaving the Dallah Taibah Hotel, Madinah Al Munarawah at 3.25 in the afternoon Madinah time. The journey which took almost 10 hours stopped at the Zul Hulaifa Mosque, Bir Ali for reciting Ihram niat.

16 intending pilgrims from Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad Safira package safely arrived at Le Meridien Hotel, Makkah at 12:47 Midnight by bus number 2. Upon arrival, the intending pilgrims were welcomed by Awang Haji Abdullah bin Haji Mohamad, Managing Director of Haj, Ministry of Religious Affairs as Head of the Brunei Darussalam Haj Management Office in Saudi Arabia for the Haj Season 1443 hijrah/2022.

Buses number 3, four and five, each carrying 119 intending pilgrims of Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad Zamrud package to Hotel accommodation at Voco Hotel, Makkah. The intending pilgrims were greeted by Ali Bondagjy, Head of MAKTAB 112.

Meanwhile, Bus Number 1 carrying 30 pilgrims from Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad Delima Package arrived safely at the Al Ghufran Safwah Hotel, Makkah at 11:53 at night Makkah time. Welcoming the arrival of the intending pilgrims was Dr. Haji Muhammad Nurhasanuddin bin Abdullah Kelali, Head of the Brunei Darussalam Haj Affairs Office for Medical.

Borneo Global Issues Conference

Over 300 delegates from 21 schools throughout the country joined the 18th International School Brunei Borneo Global Issues Conference, ISB BGIC. The conference organised by the International School Brunei, ISB is held in conjunction with Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MYCE 2022.

Delegates are assigned to four different committees namely Environment, Eco Social, Human Rights and Politics in two forums. They also decided on resolutions related to health and well -being, namely on vaccinations, infant mortality rates, epidemics, mental well -being and access to health care. They discussed the pros and cons of each resolution and had to choose a resolution to bring to the general assembly on the last day of the conference. This year’s ISB- BGIC focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals 3 which is a better health and well-being.

Launching Of Borneo Global Issues Conference

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman in a sabda stressed that the COVID-19 pandemic has also placed extraordinarily high expectations on world leaders to make decisions on how best to manage its impact and consequences, a decision that would ultimately shape our lives in many ways. Her Royal Highness in a sabda also said that as many countries are moving towards endemicity, the long-term impact of the pandemic is only now being assessed and understood. It is therefore the duty of each and every one member of society to participate to the best in safeguarding good health and well-being of everyone around us. Her Royal Highness made the sabda at the Launching of the 18th International School Brunei Borneo Global Issues Conference, ISB BGIC, yesterday morning. The conference which was organised by ISB and in support of the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MYCE 2022, was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness as the Royal Patron of ISB BGIC was greeted by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Tony Macfadyen, Executive Principal of ISB.

Her Royal Highness presented certificates of participation to representatives from twenty-one schools and sponsors.

In his welcoming address, the Executive Principal of ISB expressed gratitude towards the ISB conference partner.

In his keynote address, Dr Peter Tay, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles JPMC, touched on the Sustainable Development Goals 3 in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages. 

While, Dayang Lailatul Zubaidah binti Haji Mohd Hussain, Founder Impian Project and Health and Nursing Care Sendirian Berhad among others shared the importance of achieving the standard of health and effective of health care services.

In a sabda, Her Royal Highness emphasized that all parties have a duty to consider the aftermath of the pandemic on all levels of society, and also to learn from it, so we can better prepare for the future.

Her Royal Highness then presented mementos to sponsors and supporters. The event was sponsored by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd, Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, Gleneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd, Dynamik Technologies Sdn Bhd, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd.

Her Royal Highness also viewed the Climate Action Week exhibition. With the theme “Towards A Low Carbon And Climate-Resilient Brunei Darussalam”, the ISB BGIC brings youth together to consider the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the local and global communities.

Her Majesty the Queen’s Dinner

In the evening, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended Her Majesty the Queen’s Dinner for Heads of the Government and Spouses/Partners hosted by His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. The dinner was held at the Kilimanjaro Ballroom, Kigali Marriott Hotel.

Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Lord Rosslyn, Master of the Household to the Prince of Wales. The Dinner was also graced with a speech from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

His Majesty Formal Opening of the 26th CHOGM

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, attended the Formal Opening of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM; Restricted Executive Session; and Executive Session, which were held at Kigali Convention Centre. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen. Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda; and The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

His Majesty then proceeded to the Plenary Hall to attend the CHOGM Formal Opening with other Commonwealth leaders, and later attended the Restricted Executive Session to discuss the appointment of the new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. His Majesty then attended the CHOGM Executive Session, which was chaired by the President of the Republic of Rwanda, and was also attended by Commonwealth Heads of Government.
