General Meeting of Scout Association

The Report on the 10-year Strategic Plan of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association, PPNBD as well as the activity report during the association year was discussed during the General Meeting and Election of Members of the National Scout Council in 2022. The meeting took place this morning at the association’s headquarters building hybridly, physically and virtually.

 

Among the agenda of the meeting was the dissolution of Members of the National Scout Council and the appointment of new Members for a period of 3 years. Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas was appointed as the President of PPNBD and Awang Haji Matassim bin Haji Duraman and Pengiran Abdul Wahab bin Pengiran Hassan were appointed as the new Vice President of PPNBD.

International Family Day 2022

Strengthening family ties and raise awareness of family-related issues, especially in the context of global trends and current changes that has and continues to bring significant changes to the institutional structure of the family is the aim of the International Family Day celebration. The matter was shared in a message by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports on the occasion of International Family Day 2022.

 

This year’s International Family Day Theme “Families and Urbanization” in particular aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable and family-friendly urbanization policies. It is also in line with the country’s commitment towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in which, Brunei Darussalam and countries under the United Nations share a vision to eradicate poverty, inequality and injustice, and address climate change by 2030.

 

The focus of the National Family Day Celebration this year is “Together Caring for the Family” which highlights the Role of the Family in Community and National Development. Focusing on three key aspects namely improving work-life harmony, strengthening child protection and support for family members, several activities and initiatives have been planned, among them, Mu’tamar Antarabangsa Fiqh Al-Usrah (MUAFIQ) and Foster Family Care Program.

Munajat Night Programme

The Munajat Night programme organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs continued virtually on 14th May night, with the participation of employees and families of the Ministry of Energy; Brunei Darussalam Petroleum Authority; Safety, Health and Environment National Authority, SHENA; and the Department of Electrical Services.

 

Also present were Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussien, Minister of Energy. The Munajat night began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah led by Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy. Also participating were representatives of energy companies in the country and participants of the Kampung Batang Mitus New Converts Guidance Class and the congregations from 91 mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide.

Selection for Asian Netball Championship

Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah attended the national netball team selection match for the upcoming 12th Asian Netball Championship. The selection was held at Sports School, yesterday morning. It is to boost the preparation of Brunei Darussalam Netball Association, BNA players for the Championship which will be held in Singapore.

 

The online registration for this selection lasted five days, and a total of 100 registrations were received. Only 31 players qualified for the selection process. The selection screening was based on players who participated in the Brunei Netball League 2021, ASEAN Netball Championship and ASEAN Youth Netball Championship, SEA GAMES, and National Pool, which was also the key requirement to participate in this selection. The successful players in the selection will be announced on 16th May 2022.

‘Bandarku Ceria’ Programme Resumes

 

The Bandarku Ceria Programme resumed after more than a month long break during Ramadhan.

 

The programme received encouraging response from families and individuals who hold leisure activities such as cycling and jogging but still perform social responsibilities by practicing physical distancing. Sales booths are also held. Visitors and vendors are required to comply with the Early Endemic Phase Guidelines which is currently in force.

His Majesty leaves Washington D.C.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, left Washington D.C., United States of America, 14th May night, after attending the ASEAN-United States (U.S.) Special Summit. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

 

Prior to departure, Doa Selamat was recited by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

Present at the airport to bid farewell to His Majesty was His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Serbini bin Haji Ali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the United States of America.

 

During the visit to Washington D.C., His Majesty attended a Working Luncheon hosted by Her Excellency Kamala D. Harris, Vice President of the United States of America, in which Leaders discussed matters on maritime cooperation, as well as pandemic and health recovery. His Majesty in a titah says that ASEAN and the U.S. remain committed to peaceful engagements through dialogue and consultations through various ASEAN-led mechanisms to ensure continued regional peace, stability and prosperity.

 

Following this, His Majesty attended the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit, which was held at the Department of State. Plenary Session One was chaired by Her Excellency Vice President of the United States of America and discussed on climate action, clean energy transformation and sustainable infrastructure.

 

During the session, His Majesty welcomed the U.S’ engagement in climate change initiatives in the region. Meanwhile, Plenary Session Two was chaired by His Excellency Joseph R. Biden Jr., President of the United States of America, in which Leaders discussed on regional and global issues, as well as ASEAN-U.S. relations in the future and issues on the Indo-Pacific region.

 

During the session, His Majesty welcomed the U.S’ engagement in climate change initiatives in the region. Meanwhile, Plenary Session Two was chaired by His Excellency Joseph R.
