Additional Information on Interim Measures

The Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy added that the government will bear the SCP contribution payment to assist people who are self-employed who are affected by the pandemic.

 

Yang Berhormat said this is ensure they will have continuous survival fund. Apart from that, discount of at least 30 per cent will be given for government building rental to affected MSMEs to reduce operation cost. 50 percent tax discount for corporate revenue for 2022 to affected sectors to assist businesses experiencing a drop in income during the pandemic. Affected companies will also be given a 20-per cent discount for water and electricity bills as well as exemption of customs and excise duty for personal hygiene products until 31st of December 2021.

Interim Measures to Support a Number of Selected Sectors

 

 

The Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy in the press conference announced that His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented for the update of interim measures to support a number of selected sectors in addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah explained that the interim measures takes effect from the 1st of August 2021 until the 31st of December 2021.

 

First is the deferment of TAP and SCP contribution payments for local employees with income of 1,500 dollars and below per month at affected sectors in the micro, small and medium enterprise, MSME category with total number of employees not exceeding 100 people, and this goes until the 31st of December 2021. The contributions will be paid by the government first to ensure the payment of annual dividends to employees in the private sector is not affected. Companies allowed to make deferment of TAP and SCP contribution payments are required to pay the government back within a year after the period ends. Secondly is subsidised salary payment by 25 per cent to local employees at MSME’s with a total number of employees, not exceeding 100 people, from the 1st of August until the 31st of December 2021. This aims to alleviate the burden of MSME’s especially employees with salary of 1,500 dollars and below per month.

Comply with Ministry of Health Advice

 

The Minister of health also welcomed the participation of health workers who at this time are working at private clinics or have retired and still have the ability to become a health volunteer. Meanwhile, the public wishing to make any contributions can directly contact the Ministry of Health’s Emergency Operation Centre at 7295712, during office hours.

 

The Minister of Health said that the ministry also requires the public’s help specifically blood donors to come forward and donate blood to accommodate the demand at government hospitals. Those who are donating blood are advised to wear face masks, practise self-hygiene and physical distancing at all times.

 

While the country is facing an increasing pandemic situation, the Ministry of Health are advising the public to:

– always maintain self-hygiene and frequently wash hands

– wear face masks at all times, particularly while in a building or in crowded places inside or outside of a building

– obtain two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine injection according to their respective schedules.

 

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is making efforts to create additional vaccination slots and locations in the near future to allow more of the country’s citizens and residents to obtain the vaccine safely.

 

The public is also advised to make an appointment with a doctor and perform the SARS CoV-2 swab test if they are showing symptoms of infection. They are also advised not to leave the house including for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment if they have received a quarantine or self-isolation order. Anyone with a red and purple coloured BruHealth code are not allowed to leave the house except to receive medical treatment as this is contravening the Infectious Diseases Act Chapter 204.

 

Apart from that, do not allow other people to enter the house if you are in quarantine or self-isolation and do not leave the house if it is unnecessary. Stay at home and use the work-from -home method to help the government reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Practise physical distancing if you have to leave the house.

49 New COVID-19 Cases

 

Brunei Darussalam reported 49 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total cases to 543. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health stated the matter at a media conference on the latest COVID-19 situation yesterday afternoon at Dewan Al ‘Afiah, Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Health also stated there are 3 new clusters detected namely the Dragon Boat Cluster, 499 Cluster and Champion 7 Cluster. Joining the press conference was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy.

 

According to Yang Berhormat, there are additional cases for the existing active clusters, 21 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster; 4 cases for the ABCi Cluster; 3 for the Immigration Cluster; 2 for the Semporna Enak Cluster and 2 for the TOTAL Cluster. In addition, there are 3 new clusters detected. 6 new cases reported are related to Case 441 and Case 450 reported, 11th August. The Cluster is now known as the Dragon Boat Cluster. Another new cluster with 3 identified cases is now known as Cluster 499 which refers to one of the case in the cluster. One more cluster with 3 identified cases involving workers of the Champion 7 oil rig is now known as the Champion 7 Cluster.

 

All of the cases reported yesterday were local cases, including 5 cases where the source of infection is still being determined. Cases in the active clusters are those who are undergoing quarantine after coming into contact with several previous positive cases. Contact tracing for all new cases is currently on-going. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test. Meanwhile, 3 cases have recovered, bringing the total recovered cases to 322. This means there are 218 active cases in the country, with 2 cases in critical condition and requiring respiratory assistance, and two other cases are under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, 2,210 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the total number of lab tests conducted since January 2020 to 164,809 tests.
