AGC Biologics Enters Agreement to Acquire Facility in Longmont, CO, Eyeing to Significantly Expand Their Cell and Gene Therapy Capabilities and Offerings

Seattle, July 01, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — AGC Biologics, a leading global biopharmaceutical Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), announced the signing of a purchase agreement for a state-of-the-art Cell and Gene Therapy commercial manufacturing facility in Longmont, Colorado, currently owned by Novartis Gene Therapies. Once the transaction closes, pending final due diligence, the facility will equip AGC Biologics with significant additional capacity and space to continue to expand its end-to-end Cell and Gene Therapy (C&GT) offering, ensuring security of supply for current and future C&GT customers. This facility is only 16 miles from AGC Biologics’ state-of-the-art large-scale stainless steel mammalian facility in Boulder, CO.

This news comes just three months after AGC Biologics announced an expansion at its Center of Excellence for Cell and Gene Therapy in Milan, Italy. AGC has invested heavily in C&GT services since the acquisition and integration of MolMed in 2020, and AGC Biologics is now one of the very few CDMO’s in the world offering end-to-end C&GT services, including plasmid production of all grades.

The Longmont facility adds 622,000 square feet of operations and office space within six buildings on the sprawling 229-acre overall campus, located 40 minutes north of Denver. AGC Biologics aims to hire a significant percentage of the talented staff employed by Novartis at the facility.

Philips announces first patient treated with its new real-time 3D intracardiac echocardiography catheter – VeriSight Pro

Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced the first minimally-invasive heart procedure using its new real-time 3D intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter. The Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) procedure was carried out by Mohamad Adnan Alkhouli, M.D., at Mayo Clinic (Minnesota, U.S.). Used together with Philips Premium Cardiology Ultrasound System (EPIQ CVx), the real-time 3D Philips Intracardiac Echocardiography Catheter – VeriSight Pro – offers superior 2D and 3D live image guidance for a wide range of procedures in structural heart disease and electrophysiology, allowing interventionalists to navigate procedures with ease, provide superior care, and optimize cath lab performance.

Live ultrasound imaging during structural heart disease and electrophysiology procedures typically relies on transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) imaging, in which an ultrasound probe is passed down the patient’s throat and into their esophagus, until it lies next to the heart. TEE requires the patient to be sedated or given general anesthesia, lengthening preparation, procedure, and recovery times and carrying a degree of risk. Philips’ ICE catheter VeriSight Pro uses the same ultrasound technology, miniaturized to fit on the tip of a 1.98mm diameter (9 French) catheter so that it can be navigated to the patient’s heart via their vasculature – the same route used to introduce other catheters during minimally-invasive cardiac surgery. General anesthesia is typically not required, reducing patient risk, and opening up procedures to patients who are not good anesthesia candidates.

For interventional cardiologists, VeriSight Pro delivers a good alternative high quality 3D live image to TEE, including 3D Volume and Color Flow imaging. Based on Philips’ innovative xMATRIX 3D ultrasound transducer technology, Verisight Pro can provide a 90 by 90 degree 3D field of view as well as allowing physicians to view two scan planes simultaneously – for example, the long and short axes of the left atrial appendage (LAA) to select the appropriately sized device for LAA closure. VeriSight Pro provides superior 2D ICE imaging, as well as the ability to access new views more easily. Interventionalists can digitally change the scan angle to capture views without manually repositioning the ultrasound tip, a unique feature of this ICE catheter.

Repairing Bridge Street Lights

The lights replacement at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleh Bridge will take place on Saturday, the 3rd of July until the works are completed.

 

The Public Works Department in its press release informed that the lights replacement will involve a half-road closure at location 1 and a full-road closure at location 2, which will start at 8 in the morning the same day. Road users are reminded to remain vigilant when passing through the area as well as abide by traffic signs and comply with the speed limit.

The recruitment for Year 7 Secondary Level Student Intake of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute for the 2022 Session is still open until the 11th of August 2021. In providing opportunities for students to know more on the learning at the institute, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute Roadshow Programme was held yesterday morning.

 

The roadshow was intended to increase the number of students who have the ability and capability in memorizing the Holy verses of Al-Quran as well as to produce Al-Quran Huffaz who will venture into various fields. Students from 14 schools attended the roadshow. Present was Pengiran Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit, Principal of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al- Quran Institute.

Donation Presentation to the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund

The Pantai Mentiri Golf Club donated a total of $1,000.00 to the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund 2021.

 

The donation is part of the collections from the Pantai Mentiri Open Amateur Golf Tournament which was held on the 4th to 6th of June 2021.

 

The donation was received by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports from Retired Colonel Zahrin bin Haji Zunaidi, Chairman of Pantai Mentiri Golf Club. Also present was Pengiran Siti Rahmah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh, Acting Director of Community Development, Community Development Department. The Language Month 2021 is celebrated with a Doa Kesyukuran and Khatam Al-Quran ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

 

Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang  Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports led the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah. 30 chapters of Al-Quran were read by 20 officers and staff of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the departments under it. The event is the beginning of the Language Month 2021 celebration and the Language Month activities planned throughout the year until June 2022.

The Public Service Department’s Initiatives

 

High responsiveness and a Whole of Nation approach are necessary to provide the best and most comprehensive public service. According to the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Public Service Department plays a role as a key government agency, for human resource planning, management and development. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd. Daud, said the matter in an interview for the Public Service Department’s Golden Jubilee Special Documentary.

 

Meanwhile, as a focal agency in the public service, the Public Service Department has a role and responsibility in planning, management and development of quality and resilient human resources affairs. National Flag Distribution at All Districts

The Hoisting and Distribution ceremony of Brunei Darussalam’s flag in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan  of Brunei Darussalam’s 75th Birthday Celebration was also held simultaneously at all districts yesterday morning.

 

In the Brunei Muara District, the Flag Presentation was held at the car park area of Brunei Muara District Office. The national flag was handed over by Dayang Doctor Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, Permanent Secretary for Planning, Land Use and Environment at the Ministry of Development. Also present were the Brunei Muara District Officer and Members of the Legislative Council.

 

For Belait District, such a ceremony was held at the Menara Cendera Kenangan in Kuala Belait. The national flag was handed over by Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. Also present were Members of the Legislative Council.

 

In the Tutong District, the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex became the focal point for such a ceremony. The National Flag was handed over by Awang Mohammed Riza Bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Yunos, Permanent Secretary for Civil Service, Welfare, International and Media at the Prime Minister’s Office. Also present were Members of the Legislative Council.

 

While in the Temburong District, the National Flag Hoisting was held at the Wharf Area of Bangar Town. The national flag was presented by Awang Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health. Also present were Members of the Legislative Council.

First Annual Mekong-U.S. Partnership Senior Officials’ Meeting Held

Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Mr. Kin Moy co-hosted with Cambodia the first annual Mekong-U.S. Partnership Senior Officials’ Meeting on June 29, while the ASEAN Secretariat joined the meeting as an observer, according to a press release from U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh issued yesterday.

Senior Bureau Official Moy emphasised that the United States is committed to a secure, prosperous, and open Mekong sub-region, which is vital to the health of ASEAN and its people. He highlighted the importance of ASEAN centrality to the U.S. vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific and U.S. support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. The United States government has committed US$4.3 billion in grant assistance to the Mekong sub-region since 2009.

The six Partnership countries discussed progress on improving COVID-19 response and health security; delivering sustainable infrastructure development, including through the Japan-U.S.-Mekong Power Partnership; empowering human capital and building the foundations for a Mekong digital economy; promoting women’s economic empowerment; advancing sustainable water, natural resource management, and environmental protection; and combating non-traditional security threats, including human, wildlife, timber, narcotics, and weapons trafficking.

Senior Bureau Official Moy urged partners to take immediate action to hold the Burmese military accountable to the ASEAN five-point consensus. He called for joint action to press the Burmese military to end the violence, release those unjustly detained, and restore Burma to the path of democracy.

The Mekong-U.S. Partnership includes the United States, Cambodia, the Lao PDR, Burma, Thailand, and Vietnam. Partners work closely on sustainable development with the Friends of the Mekong group, which in addition to the United States and Mekong countries includes Australia, the European Union, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Mekong River Commission Secretariat.

Giant-Sized National Flag Hoisting

The hoisting of the Brunei Darussalam’s Giant-sized Flag marks the start of the nationwide national flag hoisting in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 75th birthday celebration. The hoisting of the Giant-sized National Flag in conjunction with His Majesty’s Birthday celebration was held yesterday morning at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital.

 

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as Chairman of the Celebration’s Executive Committee handed over the 3.7 metre TIMES 7.5 metre Brunei Darussalam’s giant-sized flag to  be hoisted.

 

The Minister of Home Affairs also handed over the 2.5 metre times 1.2 metre national flag and Posters in conjunction with His Majesty’s 75th Birthday Celebration to Awang Misle bin Haji Abd Karim, Brunei Muara District Officer; Awang Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin, Belait District Officer; Awang Ajmin bin Haji Meludin, Acting Tutong District Officer and Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubaarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim, Acting Temburong District Officer. The giant-sized national flag will continue to fly proudly in the capital until the 31st of July 2021.
