The Land Survey Department organised a Sky Watch activity at the Tatangan Persiaran Sungai Tutong for sighting Planet Jupiter and Saturn, a rare phenomenon in the country, 26th June night.

 

The activity was held to raise awareness among the public and instil interest in astronomy and astrophysics. A number of equipment were provided by the Survey Department for sky watching such as telescopes. The activity was well received by teachers and students from Pertama School, Tutong as a way to practically approach science aside from increasing knowledge.

The Community for Brunei organised the Community Farmer’s Market for the first time to promote healthy lifestyle through environmentally friendly practices. The event took place at Bumiputera Complex in Bangar Town, Temburong District.

 

Over 10 local vendors took part in the Community Farmer’s Market. It was one of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, BIBD’s initiative through the Community for Brunei to assist micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in the country to be active and competitive to expand their business. It is hoped Temburong District will become a prime destination for local vendors which will enable their business to grow and at the same time, allow the public to give back to the society.

The Voting and Election Ceremony for Village Head Candidates of Kampung Sibut and Kampung Sumbiling, Mukim Amo took place yesterday morning at the Belalong Hall of Bangar Town Civic Centre in Temburong. Two candidates are qualified to fill in the position as the Village Head of Kampung Sibut and Sumbiling namely, Awang Haji Suhaili bin Haji Badas and Awang Muhammad Ashim Amrullah bin Abdul Rahman Menchok @ Degelas Menchok. Present was Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubaarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim, Acting Temburong District Officer.

 

As the Ministry of Home Affairs’ initiative to further enhance the effectiveness of the management and administration of mukims and villages throughout the country, the administration and position of village head of the two villages were combined and changed to Ketua Kampung Sibut and Sumbiling starting on the 1st of March 2020. The voting results shown Awang Haji Suhaili received 144 votes from 161 voters.

The underprivileged group continue to receive attention from various parties in the country. The house owner of the new convert, Awang Jefri Wee bin Abdullah in Kampung Sungai Akar became the focus point for a community works organised by the Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque Takmir Committee members in Kampung Sungai Akar.

 

The function began with the presentation of donation by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism as Patron of Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque Takmir to Awang Jefri Wee. Carried out with the cooperation of Gurkha Reserve Unit of Sungai Akar and the village residents, such an activity was hoped to instil caring attitude to mutually help in alleviating the burden of the needy group aside from to foster closer relation.
