‘Bandarku Ceria’ Programme

The Bandarku Ceria programme which was temporarily put on hold throughout the month of Ramadhan, resumed yesterday. As usual, various activities were held to enliven the programme involving all walks of life.

 

As early as 6 in the morning, the public can be seen carrying out a number of activities along Jalan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, Jalan Pemancha, Jalan Pretty, Jalan Roberts, and Jalan Elizabeth II. These include brisk walking, cycling, rollerblading and doing physical exercises. Sales activities were also resumed. The public is reminded to follow Standard Operating Procedures, SOP issued by the Ministry of Health in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Charity Polo Day 2021 Carnival

The Brunei Polo Team in support of Pusat Ehsan Al-Hajjah Maryam has organised a Charity Polo Day 2021 Carnival with food and games vendors opening up booths for the public at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, Jerudong.

 

25 food vendors and 15 games vendors took part in the carnival. The entrance fee, proceeds from the sales as well as donations from the carnival will be handed over to the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, a non-governmental and non-profit charity organisation committed to providing quality education, rehabilitation and care for people with special needs in Brunei Darussalam.

Village Sales Festival

 

Awareness in maintaining and preserving cultural heritage as a national treasure, must be instilled among the society, especially the young generation. Yesterday morning, Kampung Ukong Consultative Council through the Youth Bureau held a festival in conjunction with the Adau Gayoh Youth Celebration and Kampung Ukong sales activity.

 

The festival was launched by Awang Haji Haizul Rizal bin Haji Yahya, Acting Assistant Tutong District Officer. The Adau Gayoh Festival is an annual celebration held every 1st of May. The festival was included a number of Dusun ethnic art and cultural performances by the Kampung Ukong youth. Also held were sales of handicrafts from the village products, educational elements for youths as well as exhibitions and animal shows including stalls to help generate the economy of the villagers. Also present was a Member of the Legislative Council.

Japanese Ships make Port of Calls until 8 June

​As part of the Overseas Training Cruise 2021 by Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, “JS KASHIMA” and “JS SETOYUKI” are making port of calls at the Muara Commercial Port as of yesterday till the 8th of June. Under the command of Rear Admiral Ishimaki Yoshiyasu, Commander of the Training Squadron, approximately 510 personnel, including 160 newly commissioned officers are joining the cruise.

 

Present was Ms. Kakuta Hiromi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam. In light of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic situation, face-to-face exchanges will not be conducted. However, Japan and Brunei are planning to make the most of this opportunity by holding events such as lectures by high-level officials from both countries for exchanges of knowledge using online meeting tools. This is the first visit by Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force ships to Brunei since June 2019.

Launching of Care for Palestine Initiative Official Logo

In together upholding the aspiration of the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to generate funds for the recently launched Palestinian Humanitarian Fund 2021, the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Association has introduced the ‘E-Sadaqah Untuk Mu Saudaraku di Palestin’ project. The launching ceremony for the official logo of CARE for PALESTINE initiative was held during the association’s Hari Raya Aidil Fitri Celebration with frontliners. It was held at the National Headquarters building, Bunut Post office.

 

The launch was officiated by Haji Mohd Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, Honorary Member of Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Association. The project will be using an online platform developed by a local bank that allows the public to donate through QR Code scan. The Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Association in collaboration with a number of international organisations will provide medical assistance and medical equipment to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society through a fundraising initiative from the 15th of June to the 20th of August 2021.

Hari Raya Aidil Fitri Celebration

Hari Raya in Islam has two parts. First is the religious part and second is the festivities part namely Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and Hari Raya Aidil Adha. In celebrating these two matters, as a Muslim, one should celebrate the festivities in line with the religion. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs shared this during the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration for the Ministry of Religious Affairs and its Departments Hari Raya Celebration with Kampung Selapon residents. The celebration took place at the Kampung Selapon Da’wah Post in Temburong District, yesterday morning.

 

Yang Berhormat added, both celebrations are closely related to religion. Therefore it should not be celebrated excessively or against Islamic teachings.

 

Earlier, Awang Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of the Islamic Da’wah Centre in his speech stated that the celebration held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs at the Kampung Selapon Da’wah Post aimed to foster close ties with the village residents.

 

The ceremony coincided with a conversion ceremony for Awang Lim Chee Kang who is now known as Muhammad Ar-Rayyan Lim bin Abdullah Lim. Also at the function 30 new converts received contributions. Among those present were the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and a Member of the Legislative Council.
