17th SOMCA Meeting

The 17th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting for Culture and Arts, SOMCA and related meeting to Dialogue Partners held virtually, 19th October.

 

Representing Brunei Darussalam was Dayang Hajah Nor ‘Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary for Community and Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The meeting was officiated by Her Excellency Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and chaired by Her Excellency Pen Moni Makara, Secretary of State for Culture and Arts of the Republic of Camabodia.

 

The meeting also held dialogues with the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and India. The meeting discussed the status of the implementation of the ASEAN work plan with Dialogue Partners Plus Three on cooperation in Culture and Arts 2019 to 2021 and the ASEAN work plan on Culture and Arts cooperation 2019 to 2021 with China, Japan and Korea, as well as the renewal of the Work Plans for 2022 to 2025. In discussions with India, held for the first time, through the Indian Delegation to ASEAN, the meeting noted the close historical and civilizational ties between ASEAN and India, and discussed proposed activities to further strengthen cultural cooperation between ASEAN and India. The meeting among others shared on the status of projects that are and have been implemented under SOMCA.
